Jihad Rishmany

Associate Professor and Department Chair
Faculty of Engineering
Mechanical Engineering

Jihad Rishmany was born in Lebanon in 1979. He received a Mechanical Engineering Diploma from the Lebanese University in 2002. He obtained a Ph.D. degree from ENSICA, France, in 2007. He did a postdoctoral research in tribology at Ecole des Mines in Albi, France in 2008.

In 2009 he was a part-time lecturer in several universities in Lebanon. He joined the University of Balamand, Lebanon, in 2010. Since that time, he has been with the Faculty of Engineering as an assistant professor until September 2018 where he was promoted to associate professor. He has taught more than 20 different courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels.

His professional activities at the University of Balamand (UOB) include:

Establishing and developing a new materials characterization laboratory

Responsible for the Mechanical Engineering Lab Courses

Responsible for the Mechanical Drawing Courses

Establishing a numerical simulations lab for finite element analysis and multibody dynamics

He has served on different university committees such as the Training Committee, Faculty of Engineering research committee, and the Library & Information Technology Committee.

He is currently serving as the chairperson of the Mechanical Engineering Department since February 2023.

Dr. Rishmany’s main research interests include:

1. Renewable energy

2. Magnetism

3. Waste management

4. Waste-to-energy

5. Biomechanics

In renewable energy, he worked on both solar energy and wind energy and has published till now a total of 3 publications on this topic.

In magnetism, he has been working on formulating the magnetic field between a set of permanent magnets. The ultimate objective is to develop a permanent magnet offering perpetual motion with a self-starting capability. He already has 2 articles on this topic published in 2019 and 2023.

In waste management, he has been working on sorting and miniaturizing household waste which offers lots of benefits and a possible solution for Lebanon’s waste management issue. He published an article in 2019 explaining the proposed solution. He also published in 2023 an article on the design of ball mill glass crusher to transform glass bottles into powder.

In waste-to-energy, he worked earlier on the production of briquettes from olive oil residues. He already has 1 article on this topic published in 2021.
